How to Adjust etrailer Weld-On A-Frame 2-5/16-Inch Coupler # CA5400
Question:
How do you adjust the coupler for a snug fit on the trailer hitch ball? There is no nut underside to tighten and I cant see anything to turn or twist to tighten the stud to close the clearance on the ball on the top side. The hitch and ball have 1/4inch clearance/play. Yes I have a 2 5/16inch ball for my 2 5/16inch coupler. The coupler is two months old. any help would be apreciated

The etrailer Weld-On A-Frame 2-5/16-Inch Coupler, part # CA5400, does not have any adjustment screw to enable you to take up the slack in the fit with your hitch ball. This coupler is produced by a stamping process and this type of manufacturing method will have some slight variances from one unit to another. The 1/4-inch play you find is fairly typical.
You can test the security of the attachment at the hitch ball by using your trailer jack to lift the nose of the trailer while the coupler is hitched to your tow vehicle. As long as the coupler remains locked to the hitch ball when the jack is raised then you can be confident in the security of the attachment.
If you happen to need a coupler lock we offer, for example, Trailer Coupler Lock part # e98886.
