It sounds like you do not have an S or non-Turbo S model Beetle. The Turbo S Beetles come with a 1.8 liter turbo motor and a speed activated rear spoiler. You would probably know this already if you had an S model.

The Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # 521225-1 that you referenced would be the correct base plate kit if you had a Type S of a standard model Beetle. I checked with Roadmaster to confirm this.

The Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar # RM-020 and Quick-Disconnects # RM-201 that you also referenced would be compatible with this base plate kit.

If you are looking for tow bar wiring check out the FAQ article I attached on how to pick out tow bar wiring. The Curt wiring harness you referenced part # C56175 is not for flat towing and would not work for you. This would be the correct harness to get if you planned on towing a trailer behind your Beetle.

The last two things you will need are safety cables and supplemental braking.

I recommend Roadmaster safety cables, part # RM-643. These are coiled so they will not drag on the ground.

And finally, most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to install and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake portable proportional braking system, part # RM-9400. This unit activates the brakes on the vehicle being towed in proportion to how much the RV is braking. This is the safest type of braking action, and it reduces wear and tear on the RV and towed vehicle brakes.

You will also want to check the vehicle owners manual for additional information on flat towing the vehicle. Some vehicles require an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, transmission lube pump, or free wheeling hubs in order to be flat towed
