To determine the wire functions on the trailer side 6-Way connector you have a couple of options. First, you can trace each wire back on the trailer to see where they go. Depending on how the wiring is routed on the trailer this could be easy or difficult.
The other possibility is to use a separate 12 volt battery and touch each wire to the positive terminal and see what lights up or powers on.
On a 6-Way round trailer side connector if looking at the end that plugs into the vehicle the pin in the 12 o'clock position is running lights, the pin in the 2 o'clock position is either output to the trailer brakes or 12 volt power, the pin in the 5 o'clock position is right turn and brake lights, 7 o'clock is left turn and brake lights, 10 o'clock is ground, and center is either 12 volt power or output to electric brakes.
