Parts Needed To Convert Boat Trailer With Tandem 3,500LB Axles To Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brake

Question:

I have a boat trailer that has hydraulic surge brakes that I want to switch to electric over hydraulic disc brakes. It has tandem axles rated at 3500 lbs each with 10 in drums. The bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5 with 15 in. wheels. I would like the brakes to work with my factory installed brake controller which is on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500. What would you recommend?

For your boat trailer with the tandem 3,500lb axles you will need two of the Kodiak Disc Brake Kits # K2HR35DS and two Bearing Kits # DBRKHW35EZ. These will replace the surge drum brake hubs you currently have with Dacromet and Stainless components for corrosion resistance in water.

The HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS481-8067 will supply you with the actuator, breakaway battery, breakaway switch, HBA-Cam(To work with factory brake controller) and 7-way wiring. The wiring connections are make with OE style connections for easy installation. As your trailer likely only has a 4-way or 5-way connection you can use an Adapter # 707250 or add the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box # HS381-9000 to your trailer.

You will also need to replace your coupler. We have a Bolt-On # DM16080-95 available for a 3" straight trailer tongue. If you need help finding the correct coupler please send me pictures and measurements for any bolt holes in your tongue.
