Portable Air Compressor and Pass Through TPMS w/ Trailer Tire/Wheel Upgrade for Beach Towing

Question:

I have a small 4x6 enclosed trailer with 5.30x12 4.5x5 wheels. I’d like to upgrade to a combination that would allow me to properly/safely air down for low speed 20 mph-ish beach/sand travel. I believe I could fit the 285/80/13 in the current space. Can I safely air down the set to the 20lb range for the 20miles of beach I’ll need to travel on? I understand the load of this set will be impacted by the lower air pressure.

Taking over half of the PSI out of the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D item # AM3S331 tires is not something I can recommend doing. I used to live in the desert so I understand the necessity for what you are intending to do when traveling across soft sand. Besides voiding the tire warranty the issue with running the tires deflated is the tire's sidewalls flex more causing heat to build up within the tire. This issue will increase driving on hot sand. If the overheating gets severe, a section of the tire's rubber can separate from its carcass. The protentional to blow out your bead and get sand inside of your wheel is also very high.

If you are going to be doing this regularly, you will need the Bulldog Winch Portable Air Compressor - 150 psi - 2.5 cfm Maximum Air Flow item # BDW41003. The heavy-duty battery clamps draw power from your vehicle's battery. This 150 psi portable air compressor will make sure you can re-inflate your tires quickly.

To accurately deflate and re-inflate your trailer tires I recommend adding the TST TPMS for RVs - Grayscale Display - Signal Booster - 4 Flow Through Tire Sensors item # TST-507-FT-4 to your set up. These tire sensors allow you to accurately monitor your tires PSI and the flow through sensors give you the added convenience of not having to remove and reinstall the sensors each time.
