Cargo Carrier Options When Attaching To a Vehicle That Only Has a 1-1/4 Class I or II Receiver
Question:
My vehicle only has a 1 1/4inch hitch, however, we do not anticipate hauling anything too heavy, just bulky. Maybe 100 pounds at most. Could you use this Stromberg Cargo Carrier with a 1 1/4inch hitch given what I mentioned above with an adapter? I would like add an anti-rattle as well. Im guess I might need two with an adapter...correct?

Yes, you can use a Hitch Adapter # HTAD so that you can carry a 23x59 Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier # CC-100 with your 1-1/4" receiver. Do take note that the capacity of your receiver is reduced in half when using this type of adapter. And be sure to account for the weight of the Carrier(39lbs) when determining your maximum cargo weight. Anti-Rattle devices like the Quiet Hitch # RM-061-125 and # RM-061 would be needed to help eliminate unwanted noise and movement when using the rack.
I recommend the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches # 63155 as being a better option. With this carrier you will not need an adapter as it fits a 1-1/4" receiver. It also has a built in 3" riser to help with ground clearance. With the less parts required it will be much simpler to install and use when you need it. A LED Light Kit # 98174LED may be needed if your cargo impairs the view of your tail lights on your tow vehicle. This will plug into a 4-way flat connector that is generally used for trailer towing. If you do not have this type of connector, please let me know what vehicle you have and I can recommend one that will work.
