Trailer lights

Question:

I have a fifth wheel RV and my right brake light and right turn signal do not illuminate when activated. The left side works fine. Any ideas?

I would start with checking the light bulb if you have not already. Since you know your left side is working you can swap them to ensure that the light bulb is not the issue.

Next since the right turn signal and brake light share the same wire on your harness I recommend checking to ensure that you are getting power from your tow vehicle to that terminal on your 7-way connector. You will want to use a Test Light # PTW2993 to check for power. This will be the blade terminal located at the 3 o'clock position when looking into the connector on the rear. I have included a picture of the connector. If you do not have power at this terminal you will want to check your owners manual for the fuse that sends power to the trailer right tail light.

If the issue is not the bulb and not your truck you will need to use the Test Light # PTW2993 to follow along the trailer wiring to determine where the break in your connection is. I would start at the tail light housing and work your way up to determine if the housing is at fault. It may be difficult to follow all the wiring if you have an enclosed underbelly on your 5th wheel.

You can use some Wire # DW02359-1 and Butt Connectors # 05731-5 to replace any damaged wiring you find in the lighting circuit.
