Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited High Altitude

Question:

Hi I just purchased this jeep. I need to know which parts you recommend to flat tow this behind my 2021 Navion RV with a tow rating of 5,000 lbs. It has a 2inch hitch. The Jeep weighs 4,800. I hear Blu OX and brake buddy are good choices. But I would like to hear what you recommend. Please list all applicable part numbers. I will need a brake and light system kit also. Will I be able to install this by myself, I have all the tools, and I am mechanically inclined...lol! Also, could you recommend where to get this installed if I choose not to do it myself? Thanks,

I'm happy to help you locate the parts you need, which will consist of base plates, a compatible tow bar, tow bar wiring, safety cables, supplemental braking and possibly a high/low adapter. When it comes to installation we've put together a helpful resource that can be used to locate RV shops in your area if you'd rather have someone else complete the work; you'll want to look on the product pages below the installation and review videos where there's a link you can use to locate these shops.

Now, for the flat towing parts, Blue Ox parts are nice but I recommend using the Roadmaster base plates # RM-521453-5 since they're powder coated a bit thicker and offer a bit easier installation on Jeeps like yours since there's no fitting a cross member between the skid plate and bumper to install. With the Roadmaster base plates I recommend pairing it with the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 which comes with safety cables included. This is a non-binding tow bar that allows for easy connection and disconnection on uneven ground.

For a wiring solution, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode Wiring kit # RM-154, which uses diodes to protect your RV from back feed in the event of a short. For supplemental braking I recommend using the Roadmaster Invisibrake # SM99251 since it provides power to the battery for charging during travel and is a permanently mounted system, which means you won't need to set it up each time you go out on the road like you would with a Brake Buddy # HM39494. If you've got air brakes on your coach then you'll want to use the # SM99243 instead of the # SM99251. You'll also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch # RM-751490 and 12v outlet kit # RM-9332.

The final piece of the puzzle is a high/low adapter, which I've linked a helpful article on how to measure properly to determine if one will be needed as well as our entire selection of them for you to choose from if its needed.

I've also linked some review and installation videos of these parts for you to check out and see if you want to install them yourself or have them done at a local RV shop. It looks like there are quite a few shops nearby in our installation shop locator, which is located on the product pages as I mentioned.
