Recommended Ball Mount for 4 Inch Height Difference Between Hitch and Trailer Coupler

My hitch is 17 inches and my trailer coupler is 13 inches what size of drop or rise to I need?

For lighter trailers, all you need to do is determine the height difference between the inside top edge of the hitch receiver tube and the bottom of the trailer coupler which will provide you with the necessary rise or drop needed (see linked article). Heavier trailers will cause the rear of the tow vehicle to sag by an inch or two, so you'll need to take that into account when choosing a ball mount to place the trailer ball at the correct height so the trailer is towed within and inch or two of level.

If you're only talking up to a couple of hundred pounds of tongue weight, you'll need a ball mount with a 4 inch drop, like the # 2753. If your trailer tongue weight is in excess of 200-300 lbs, the trailer's tongue weight will cause the rear suspension of the tow vehicle to settle by an inch or two. If that's the case, go with a 2 inch drop ball mount like # D-4 and a Hitch Pin and Clip item # PC3.

Either ball mount mentioned has a 7500 lb weight capacity. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.
