Options to Carry a Motorcycle Carrier on a 2017 Tiguan

HI trying to understand tongue weight . I have a 2017 VW Tiguan. I would like to haul a 305lb wet weight motorcycle. I am looking at the etrailer class III receiver hitch. The carrier I will use is 38lb. for a total of 342lb, bike and carrier combined. So this hitch should work? Thank you.

The etrailer # e98906 does look to be able to handle what you need it to, but it is getting pretty close to the maximum capacity. I highly advise using the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 to make sure the carrier stays completely stabile while in use.

That being said, I may have a better option. The EcoHitch # 306-X7393 will also fit your vehicle, but has a tongue weight of up to 750 pounds. However, the tongue weight will be limited to the lowest rated component. You can confirm the max tongue weight of your vehicle by looking at the sticker in the door jamb. The # RM-061 will still be suggested if you go with this hitch as well.
