Which Trailer Winch with Synthetic Rope and At Least 6000-lbs Capacity

I have a 20 ft steel deck car hauler and am looking for an economical synthetic rope winch. I want to be able to pull at least a 6000 lb vehicle on the trailer deck. Most of the time I would be pulling around a 4000 lb vehicle. What size winch do I need? I am confused at the weight ratings of winches. What is the difference between the load rating and “rolling” load rating.

I can understand why this might be confusing, when it comes to the different ratings. Rolling capacity is essentially just the capacity of the winch to pull a load that is moving up an incline; technically the capacity that is listed is the maximum amount the winch can handle as a static load-or an item at a dead stop.

The # BDW10042 you were looking at isn't going to be the best solution for you since it's a recovery winch designed for mounting on a vehicle; it also has a wire rope, so it's not exactly what you're looking for. The winch I recommend using is the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch - Synthetic Rope - Hawse Fairlead - 7,800 lbs # BDW10032, since it's got a synthetic rope and has a shorter rope that's designed for use on a car trailer. The shorter rope gives you a bit more pulling power since you'll have less on the spool, and it comes with the steel mounting plate and hardware to mount it to your trailer. It also has a plug in remote to allow you to use the winch out of the way and has a maximum capacity of 7800-lbs.
