Recommended Weight Distribution System For 800-1100lb Tongue Weight Compatible With 8" Trailer Frame

Question:

Hi. I have a 24-foot enclosed car trailer, 9990 GVWR, tongue weight between 800 to 1100 pounds. Im trying to figure out an equalizer hitch with sway control. Here us my problem... The trailer has a V-tongue made of 8-inch tall by 2.25-inch wide I-beam frame rails. What are my options? Thanks.

I have another option for you, but since the frame on your trailer is 8" tall you will not be able to use an Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # EQ37120ET as it can only accommodate frames up to 6" tall.

Instead I recommend the Reese Weight Distribution w/out Shank - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # RP66022 with the Chain Hangers for Reese Weight Distribution Systems - Bolt On # RP58305 which will bolt to the frame of your trailer meaning it will work with your 8" tall frame.

You mentioned that your trailer tongue weight is between 800-1000lbs but a weight distribution system is actually dependent on total tongue weight which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. This option works with total tongue weights ranging between 600-1200lbs so as long as you do not have a lot of cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle this would be the best option.

You will also need Shank # RP54970 and 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.

I included a video of the Reese System for you to take a look at.
