How To Use A 2 Bike Carrier On A 2009 Honda Accord That Has A 1-1/4 Hitch Receiver
Question:
Hi etrailer, Ive got a Honda Accord 2009 that Id like to use to carry a bike rack with a 2 inch receiver Kuat NV 2.0. I bought a nice hitch with a 2 inch receiver from you for my CR-V, but I cant find a hitch with a 2 inch receiver for my Honda Accord. Is there a hitch with a 2 inch receiver that will work with my Honda Accord? Thank you for your time

I have a solution for you, however, there are not any 2" trailer hitch receivers available for your 2009 Honda Accord. I recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 1-1/4" # C11085 then using adapter Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R to convert it to 2". Then it will be compatible with the Kuat Envy 2.0 Bike Rack # BA22B that you were wanting. The only drawback here is that when using the 1-1/4" to 2" adapter you will lose 50% of your hitch's capacity. For example, the Curt hitch has a max tongue weight of 200lbs but with the adapter it will be reduced to 100lbs. This carrier weighs 52lbs leaving you will only 48lbs to be added.
While the option above may work for you, I highly recommend going a different route: use Yakima HoldUp EVO Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Wheel Mount # Y02480. This fits your 1-1/4" trailer hitch receiver and holds 2 bikes with tires up to 4.8" wide.
Keep in mind that Curt requires Curt Trailer Hitch Stabilizing Support Strap # 18050 when using the receiver for non-trailered loads. I have attached demonstration videos for these products.
