How Fast Can I Go On a Snow-Covered Highway Using Tire Chains
Question:
Just what is a maximum travel speed on a snow covered highway.

First, if there are posted speed limits, make sure to obey those. We usually recommend traveling no more than 30 to 40 miles per hour with chains installed. The faster you travel the more wear you can put on the chains in addition to a higher chance of losing traction. Pewag and Glacier suggest an even more modest pace of 25 miles an hour or so.
I have included a link to our tire chain FAQ article for you with additional information on the use of chains. Be sure to consult your owners manual for specific recommendations on chain use.
