Does the Magnet Get Lubricated when Installing an Electric Trailer Brake Assembly

Question:

I am replacing my electric brakes with never adjust brake units. Do I need to lubricate the magnet where it contacts the hub and what type of lubricant do I use?

Expert Reply:

You do not grease the magnet or where it touches the hub (armature surface). Grease could end up on the pads or where the pads touch the hub and that will cause all sorts of problems. Components that do need lubrication are already lubricated from the factory on brake assemblies that are applicable.

That doesn't really change the fact that you shouldn't be greasing the magnet. It just means that either your trailer is old or you've got water getting into your brakes somewhere consistently. Or perhaps you don't use your trailer very often?

@JonG Of course one doesn't introduce large amts. of grease into a brake. The small area the magnet slides in and out on, a x shaped metal bar, i would think can be touched with a dab of antiseize. Trailers tend to sit a lot between uses I find that requires checking all things are working each use. Lights expecially because the snap splices used are frankly garbage.tks for reply.
