Troubleshooting 2 Inch Ball Mount that Fits Too Tight In Vehicle Receiver

Question:

I have a Mercedes GLE350 and the Curt #C45036 doesnt quite fit in the 2inch receiver. I can bang it in with a hammer but then I cant get it out again. Interestingly the Brophy #BH20 10,000 lb capacity does fit no problem. Im looking for a 7,500 lb capacity ball mount that will fit in my Mercedes 2inch receiver. Is there some spec I can look at e.g. wall thickness that might help me predict which one will fit? I understand this might simply be a flaw in my cars receiver but were not prepared to have it fixed at the moment, so were trying to just find something that will fit!

The Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2" Ball - 2" Drop - 7,500 lbs # C45036 sounds like it may have a little too much powder coat or something to cause resistance like you stated. Alternatively it could be the receiver side as well but it seems odd that the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BH20 fits if it were the receiver side.

The # BH20 will work fine for your 7,500 lb capacity if you don't want to purchase another option. You can also choose to sand down some of the powder coat on the Curt ball mount and then it will likely fit. Just make sure if you do this and sand too far you will want to use paint to seal the bare metal.

If you want a ball mount specifically rated for 7,500 lbs and not higher, I recommend the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 8-1/2" Long - 7.5K # D-4, and the Hitch Pin and Clip, # PC3, along with 2 inch ball # 63845.
