LED Hitch Cover Troubleshooting on 2020 GMC Sierra
Question:
Have you heard of this lighted hitch cover not working in the new trucks because power is only supplied to the outlet when it senses a load? Is there a work around. Thanks.

There are always new things added to trucks with sensors and such for safety and this is one of the most recent. The workaround for an LED hitch cover like # CR-007G would be to add a load resistor. Some adapters like # C35FR have load resistors integrated to create the draw needed and are the easy solution for this issue.
The other option is to put load resistors on the functions behind the connector using resistors like # DI34ZR. This type of connection requires adapting the factory wiring slightly so some prefer it for a clean look but others don't want to tamper with factory wiring and may even purchase a separate wiring harness like # C55384 to add the functions behind the factory connector without impacting the factory wiring harness. This is a favorite way to also add the LED light bars to the tailgate area as well because the wiring is hidden underneath the vehicle.
