Best Parts for Flat Towing 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

My class C is only rated to tow 5000#. Do I need the 7500# dominator? How does that compare to the RM520? What is “non-binding”? Also, please explain the differences between the DM9519340 and RM521451-5 besides price. Thanks for the help.

I'm happy to give you my recommendations for all the best parts for flat towing your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, including a way to protect it from rocks and debris to keep it looking sharp. The best parts to flat tow your '19 Cherokee Trailhawk are:

- Base Plate Kit: Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519340
- Tow Bar: Demco Dominator Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511008
- Vehicle Guard: Sentry Deflector for Demco Tow Bars # DM9523135
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243

The Demco Tabless Base Plates allow your Cherokee to keep its clean look, and the Dominator tow bar is the best option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables and an adjustable tilting head. As you can see by the accompanying photo, the Sentry Deflector offers full coverage of the front of your Cherokee to stop debris from coming into contact with it.

The Flexo-Coil wiring kit is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Cherokee's electrical system safe, and both the Stay-IN-Play DUO and Air Force One are strongly recommended because they are one-time installs which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and give you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power and thus are more rigid.

Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations of these parts on a 2019 Cherokee for you to take a look at.

Let's start with the difference between base plates, and there isn't a vast difference between the Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519340 and Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521451-5 you referenced. The Demco does have covers over the tabs where the draw bars get inserted, which I think give it a cleaner look, but that's not the reason I chose them as the best option. The reason has to do with the two bars and rock guards that are compatible (and in regards to "non-binding," that means the tow bars are able to easily be removed even if there is a lot of force on the bar, like if you are not perfectly straight and flat behind your motorhome when you want to remove the bar). While I like the Demco Dominator # DM9511008 because it is lightweight and made of aluminum to totally resist corrosion, the Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511012 will certainly work and is a good option as well. I like these over the Roadmaster because of their built-in safety chains and because of their adjustable shank and head which means you don't need a high-low adapter. The Sentry Deflector for Demco Tow Bars # DM9523135 is also my preference for a rock guard compared to the Roadmaster option due to how it covers the whole front of the vehicle. With the Roadmaster base plates you would need a tow bar, the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522 along with Safety Chains # RM-643 and a high-low adapter like # RM-048-4 (I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter, as well as a link to our selection of adapters). Then for protection you would need the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4750. I have added links to video reviews for these parts as well.
