Options To Help Reduce Trailer Sway with 8.5 x 20 Enclosed Trailer
Question:
I have an 2017 Nissan Titan XD with 5.0 engine 4x4. I just purchased an 8.5 x 20 enclosed trailer. I have an bad problem with trailer sway. On the way home with it I couldn’t safely go over 60 mph. The trailer was empty and it weighs 3200lbs. Can you recommend anything to fix my problem? I also have an Gen Y hitch. GH-324.

I have a few options that will help you get better control of your trailer so you don't have to worry about sway issues while out on the highway. The best option is going to be a weight distribution system with friction sway control, the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17500 is what I recommend. The TruTrack is going to do more to reduce trailer sway than pretty much any other type of similar device. It will also help to help level the tow vehicle if you have any sag or squat but even if that is not the case the sway control benefits are well worth it.
That said, this option will not allow you to use your Gen-Y Ball Mount. If you want to continue using the Gen-Y Ball Mount then we do still have an option for you in the Curt Electronic Sway Control System part # C94VV which uses the trailer's brakes to help control trailer sway.
