According to the instructions, the exhaust does NOT need to be dropped to install the etrailer # e98904 hitch on a 2020 Equinox.If you look at the install video I've linked, you can see a similar hitch being installed, the procedure would be the same with the # e98904 on your Equinox. This hitch fits all models except for the Diesel. If you have a Diesel, you'd want to use the Draw-Tite # 76217. This hitch wouldn't require the exhaust to be lowered either, but because of the DEF tank, the installation is a little more involved as you can see in the linked instructions.

If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, you'll need a trailer wiring harness like # C94FR for vehicle with the tow package or # 118750 for Non-Premier models that don't have the tow package or # 118759 for Premier models. You'll also need a ball mount like # C45070 and for a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.
