Adapter Needed to Convert 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser Wiring to 4-Way Combined Wiring
Question:
I have a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser with a factory tow package. There are 5 wires coming from the vehicles wire loom. Whiteground, Browntail lights, Yellowleft turn, Greenright turn, Redbrakes. When I purchased the vehicle the previous owner had spliced in a 4-pin connector and left the red wire unconnected. Through research I have found that most trailer harnesses use the yellow and green wires for turn signal and brakes, however after testing the vehicle I have found that this is not the case on mine, or so I think. The trailer that I have is just a small utility trailer with a 4-pin connector, no reverse lights and no need for a brake controller. I know that the trailer is wired correctly because everything works fine with a different vehicle. How do I connect the Red brake wire so that the brake lights will function properly?

Expert Reply:
Since your tow vehicle has separate turn signal circuit from stoplight circuits you'll need a taillight converter to make put them all on the same wire with the part # RM-732. Once you wire this to the vehicle wiring you mentioned you'll be able to run the output circuits of the box to your current 4-way and the turn signal wires will carry the stoplight circuit like needed and you'd be set!
