Can 4.80-8 Size Tires Safely Transport 350 lb Boat

Question:

Buying a #350 boat on a trailer with 4.80 X8 tires. Will this size cause me a problem ? I could replace them with the same size new. or do you feel a bigger size would be less of a problem ? The rims are 4 hole.

Expert Reply:

You should definitely be okay with your 4.80-8 size tires. Even at the lowest load range B, like the Kenda tire # AM10002, the max load rating is 590 lbs at 60 psi per tire. For 1 axle that means the combined tire weight rating is 1,180 lbs which should be well over the combined weight of your 350 lb boat and your trailer.

If you wanted to upgrade your tire load range to C (745 lbs at 90 psi) then we have the Kenda # AM10004 which would then give you a combined weight rating of 1,490 lbs for your tires.

Please note that you are always limited by your least rated component so you don't want to exceed the trailer product with the lowest weight rating.
