Trailer Build With Timbren & Dexter Components  

Question:

Looking to build a trailer. Wanting to know if Timbren 3500HD with 4inch lift ASR35HDS05 and Dexter hub and drum 3500lb EZ Lube axle 10inch 5 5.5 bolt pattern with work together? Also What do I need to know so I can add elc brakes to this set up. Ill order extra bearings etc, if you give me parts numbers too. Thanks

I went to our warehouse and pulled these Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - 4" Lift Spindle - Regular Tires - 3,500 lbs # ASR35HDS05 to measure the spindle for the right hub and drum. You have a couple of options to choose from but the 3,500lb Dexter hub and drum will not work with the Timbren because the heavy duty spindles of the Timbren will not fit the bearings of the Dexter hub. The Timbrens are meant for larger hubs and larger wheels.

There aren't any hubs with a 5 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern to fit the Heavy Duty Timbrens. The closest bolt pattern is a 6 on 5-1/2 using the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-9UC3-EZ but in order to make them fit you need seals with a larger inner diameter. Replace the seals with Grease Seals 10-36 (pair) # RG06-070 instead.

Another option for hubs with seals that do fit currently are the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 8 on 6-1/2 # 42866UC3-EZ. These fit as-is but you're going up in bolt pattern even more to an 8 on 6-1/2.

To get an extra bearing kit # BK3-200 is the kit with the correct seals that fits the spindles and both hubs.

For brake assemblies for either of those hub options you can use # 23-464-465.

If you're set on the 5 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you can instead use the standard 3,500 lb Timbren system # ASR3500S06 and then the Dexter hubs you mentioned, # 84557UC3-EZ, fit. If you go this route the replacement bearing kit is # BK2-100 and the brakes you need are # 23-468-469.

The rest of the parts you need to wire up the brakes is a 7-way wiring kit, like part # HS381-9000, extra wiring, part # 10-2-1 sold by the foot, and a breakaway kit, like the Hopkins # HM20001.
