Trailer Coupler Latch is Very Difficult to Operate  

Question:

We have a WDH set up by our dealer on our TV. When coupling we cannot get the latch to seat without extreme measures like jumping on bumper or towing forward and back. Also we cannot get the ball to release when decoupling. We need to actually pull the ball out of the TV receiver to unhitch. What can I adjust to remedy this. Thanks

There are a few things that could be causing the issue you're experiencing.

Let's start with the obvious-be sure you're using the correct trailer ball for the coupler. The coupler will have the necessary ball size stamped into it. It may sound blatantly obvious, but hey, it happens.

Secondly, the nut on the underside of the latch can be used to adjust the tension of the latch to a degree. The latch/jaw mechanism of the coupler could be worn or damaged. We offer a few latch repair kits, which you can see by using the provided link. The coupler should have the manufacturer name and mode number stamped into it. A worn or damaged/deformed trailer ball could be at fault. Make sure the ball is still smooth and not gouged.

These are the most likely culprits, with the coupler being out of adjustment being the most likely.
