Will Rear Hatch Open With Trunk-Mounted Bike Rack Installed on 2011 Kia Sorento

Question:

2011 Kia Sorento Will the rear door open with the hitch installed? Without Bikes of course

Expert Reply:

With any trunk-mounted bike rack like the Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier # TH910XT that fits your 2011 Kia Sorento, the rear hatch cannot open with the rack on the car, you would need to take it off first.

If you wanted to use a bike rack that would allow you to open the hatch of your Sorento you would first need to install a trailer hitch such as the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75684 along with a platform bike rack, like the cost-effective but quality Swagman XC # S64650 or the outstanding Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack # TH92BJ.

As you can see by the accompanying photo of the Doubletrack rack on a 2011 Sorento, its arms fold down so you can open the rear hatch easily with the rack still on, and the XC is similar in that it has a center mast which folds down so you can open the hatch.

I've added links to video reviews of the bike racks for you to check out.
