Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

I have a class II Curt trailer hitch mounted on my 2008 Subaru Outback Limited. Will I have any problems attaching this cargo carrier? Will there be enough ground clearance?

The Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18145, has a straight shank so the bottom most part of the rack will be the same distance from the ground as the bottom of the receiver opening in your hitch. Your Outback has a fair amount of clearance but there is always a possibility of the carrier making contact with the ground on steep inclines like when pulling in and out of driveways.

For a little added clearance, go with a carrier that has a rise in the shank like # 63155. This carrier is the same size as the Curt carrier, 20 x 48 inches, but it has a 3 inch rise in the shank. I have included a link to a video that features this carrier and also shows the optional light kit # 20174.

Either carrier will be a good fit for the 1-1/4 inch, Class II trailer hitch on your Outback.
