Minimum Trailer Tire to Fender Clearance Recommendation
Question:
I want to change the 4.80x12 boat trailer tires with a 5.30x12 tire for my small trailer. I know the 5.30s are a bit wider and probably 3/4foot taller. I bought one to test the fit but how much clearance do I need from the top of the tire to the fender to be safe? Any advice would be very helpful.

Generally speaking you will want to have 3 inches from the top of your tire to the fender of your trailer to accommodate for suspension travel. Having a little more wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't recommend any less than 3 inches.
