How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
07 ram has the harness from the factory under the dash. I bought the harness to go from the truck to the electric brake controller and the controller its self. Thats hooked up and is all good. I bought the 7 way plug at the rear that the factory 4 way plugs in grounded it and ran a power wire for the controller and a power wire for constant 12 volts to the front of the vehicle. I purchased a 40 amp breaker recommended as per 1 of your Installation videos so I have that my questions are on 07 ram 1500 quad cab 4wd 5.7L 1 where do I tie in the blue power wire for the controller I could not find a wire run to the rear of the truck and 2 the constant 12 volt wire runs to the breaker then to the battery but can the breaker be mounted to a metal surface w/o any kind of barrier to prevent it from shorting out. And 3 does the blue controller need a fuse/breaker in line or does the truck have 1 installed already

The brake output wire (usually blue) should already be partly ran on your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. There is a connector (see photo) that is located on the driver side of the vehicle right behind the front wheel well. This connector should have a blue wire for the brake output which you can confirm with a circuit tester. You can then use a quick splice connector like part # SWC501915-1 and loose wire like part # 10-1-1 (per foot) to attach it to the 7-way. If this wire is not present then you will just need to run the brake output wire (usually blue) from the brake controller all the way back to the 7-way trailer connector with part # 10-1-1 (per foot).
If you are using a circuit breaker with a plastic base like part # PK54240PL on a metal surface then you should not have any issues but if you are using a circuit breaker like part # 9510 with a metal base on a metal surface then you may want to wrap it in electrical tape or mount it on a plastic surface just to be safe.
The brake output wire (usually blue) will not require any sort of circuit protection as it is likely built into the brake controller itself. We have a help article which explains the above process more in depth which I have attached for you as well.
