Difference Between Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitches 13703 and 13704

Question:

1. Other than price, I could not find any difference between Curt 13703 and 13704. 2. I plan to use this for bike racks. What does it mean when the instruction on the 13703 say: WARNING: ALL NON-TRAILER LOADS APPLIED TO THIS PRODUCT MUST BE SUPPORTED BY AUXILIARY STABILIZING STRAPS. The 1304 does not have the same warning. How are AUXILIARY STABILIZING STRAPS secured?

The difference between the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receivers # 13703 and # C13704 are a couple things, starting with the # C13704 having a 5,000 lb towing capacity and 500 lb tongue weight capacity while the # 13703 has a a 3,500 lb towing capacity and 350 lb tongue weight capacity.

Both fit box frames, C-channel frames, or I-beam frames, though the # C13704 is for frames 22" to 68-1/2" wide while the # 13703 is for 22" to 72" wide frames.

The Stabilizing Straps # 18050 which are needed for the # 13703 are easily secured; you only need to find a place for the hooks to grasp onto. I have added a link to a video showing how these are used on a passenger car.
