Troubleshooting Brake Controller Installation on 2012 Ford E350 Van

Question:

My van already has a working 7 way plug but no brake controller. I found the factory controller plug behind the coin holder in the dash. I hooked up the 3034 cord to my Prodigy controller but got no power. After further inspection I discovered that there was no fuse in the panel. Seemed like an easy fix but then I realized that the fuse block only has one blade. Why would Ford run all the wiring from the dash back to the rear but not run the power from the dash to the fuse panel? What am I missing and what’s the fix?

The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Ford # 3034-P is the correct fit for factory 7-way systems. It is odd to have the harness connection and not have it connected to the power, but that is what Ford did on their factory 4-flat models. They required the brake output wire and a 12V hot lead wire be run from the battery. I recommend testing the red brake wire for signal and then checking to see if the blue brake output wire is run to the 7-way or not. If it is run, then check for 12V power at the 7-way as well. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test each pin function. You may simply need a 12V power for the controller along with the 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510, but you may need the entire kit. I've attached an article to assist.

To manually run these features and bypass the factory harness, I recommend using kit # 5506.
