Recommended Kayak Carrier, Canoe Carrier, and Bike Rack for 2018 Honda CR-V

Id like to thank you for your prompt and helpful responses to my previous questions. However, Im not quite clear about a couple of things. First, are tie-down straps such as the Thule TH530 required or recommended for transporting a canoe or kayaks on a 2018 Honda CR-V? Several of the customer photos of the TH819 show what appear to be these straps used to secure a canoe under the front of the hood and under the rear hatch as opposed to under the bumpers. The TH819 comes with hooks for the ends of the front/rear ropes, no means of securing them under a hood or rear hatch. Im not yet familiar enough with the CR-V to know where the recommended front/rear latch points are, as we just purchased the vehicle. The product photos for the TH848 show a single strap under the side of the hood that is used to tie off or hook the carrier rope/strap, so I assume that only one set is needed. Second, Id like to confirm that an additional set of 2 tie-down straps and 2 bow/stern ropes/straps such as the TH855XT are required in order to secure a second kayak using the TH848 carrier. It looks like the TH848 comes with whatever is necessary for one kayak, but only one. I just want to make sure I have everything needed in order to transport either 1 canoe or up to 2 kayaks on a 2018 Honda CR-V. Thanks.

I see you have asked a pair of different questions, one about transporting 2 kayaks and the other about a canoe and bike rack. What will you be transporting on your CR-V, and if it is bikes, how many are you looking to carry? If you can get back to me with that I can try and find you the best solution.

Thank you for the information and we can get you set up to haul a canoe, kayaks and bikes with your 2018 Honda CR-V. Since you mentioned you will be getting the OEM crossbars I can confirm for you that the Thule Portage Canoe Carrier w/ Tie-Downs # TH819 you referenced will fit the factory crossbars of an '18 CR-V so you would be able to carry a canoe with it. For your kayaks, the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs # Y04073 are also confirmed to fit factory crossbars and will allow you to carry a pair of kayaks. For a bike rack I recommend the Draw-Tite # 76128, which is a Class III hitch that has a 2" receiver. Since you will be travelling I recommend using a platform bike rack to give your bikes the most stability. The Thule Doubletrack Pro XT # TH92BJ is a high-quality rack that protects your bikes from moving too much in the rack by securing to their downtubes with cushioned ratcheting arms. It has sliding wheel trays in order to accommodate bikes of varying lengths and a handy lever which allows you to fold the rack up against your CR-V's rear hatch when not in use. The Doubletrack also comes with locks on the ratcheting arms and one for for the anti-rattle hitch receiver, but I recommend the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders # TH450600, which is 6 cylinders that will allow you to key the kayak carrier and bike rack the same.

The Thule Portage Canoe Carrier # TH819 comes with tie-downs that you would need to attach to the underside of a 2018 Honda CR-V, while the Quick Loops for Thule Bow/Stern Tie-Downs # TH530 you referenced are used to give vehicles a more convenient anchor point. The Quick Loops are not necessarily a requirement or in a fit guide for any vehicle though I would recommend them if you have any concerns about attaching the tie-downs, and frankly, just to make transporting your canoe easier. In regards to how many are needed, it will be one pair of Quick Loops per canoe/kayak that you are transporting as they each need their own attachment. As for the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier # Y04073, it comes with straps to tie down a single kayak so you will need to use Yakima Bow/Stern Tie-Down Ropes # Y04031 in order to secure two kayaks.
