Is 5th Wheel Airborne Sidewinder and B and W Companion Hitch Overkill in Terms of Ride Quality
Question:
I have a 2017 Ford F-250 Short bed pickup with factory fifth wheel mounts. I’d rather not have to mess around with a sliding hitch so I plan on buying a Fifth Airborne pin box with sidewinder for my trailer. I sent an email to you guys earlier and identified my pin box as a 1621, which means my replacement pin box/sidewinder would be a RP61422. As for the hitch I was planning on buying the BandW BWRVK3300 along with the SWW-06 wedge. My first question, I would simply like to know if the three parts I am looking into are compatible with each other? More specifically I guess, is this the correct wedge to allow the pin box to work with the hitch? Secondly, is it overkill going with a premium hitch as well a premium pin box. It is my understanding that the BandW hitch reduces chucking but so does the Fifth Airborne. Would I be able to save some money and get a similar ride if I either went with a less expensive hitch, or a standard non Fifth Airborne sidewinder? You guys are great, thanks for all your help!

All of the parts you mentioned are the correct fits for each other. The Sidewinder part # RP61422 is the correct replacement for the Lippert 1621 and is cushioned so it will give you a great ride quality. Then for a hitch the B and W Companion # BWRVK3300 is a great option that I would highly recommend as well. The wedge part # SWW-06 is the correct wedge to fit the hitch to the Sidewinder.
I wouldn't say the combo you are interested in is overkill. It is a premium setup for sure, but it's not overkill to the point that going with a cheaper setup would give you same ride quality. It all helps and this setup would just be incredibly easy to tow with and very smooth.
