Dimensions of Grease Seal Included in Dexter Utility Hub Kit 8-174-5UC3
Question:
Im looking at item 8-174-5UC3 and have a question. Literature indicates this drum uses either a 2-1/8 or 2-1/4 id grease seal, but I only see one seal in the contents description. Is the seal able to accommodate either size? My spindle needs the 2-1/4inch size. Also, please confirm that this drum is compatible with the open centered rim only 14-1/2inch rim. Thanks!

The Dexter Utility Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 includes a grease seal with an inner diameter of 2.125-inches. This is noted in the bearing/race/seal information that appears on the hub's page under the specs. The seal outer diameter, which matches the hub's bore, is 3.376-inches. Seal dimensions must be very precise and should be taken to the nearest thousandth of an inch, such as 2.125-inches, by using a precision caliper like # PTW80157.
This hub has 9/16-inch wheel studs and works with wheels that have this same 5-spoke utility bolt pattern. It is compatible with 12 x 2-inch drum brakes. Your current hubs must use the same inner and outer bearings in order for the hub to fit on the spindles.
