Can Weight Distribution System be Used with 2018 Dodge Durango

Question:

I have previously purchased trailer hitches and other products from e-trailer.com with great results and I am hoping you can help me again. I have a 2016 Dodge Durango AWD SXT with a V-6 engine. It did not come with a factory trailer tow package, so I purchased a MOPAR OEM hitch and had it installed by the dealer. I am trying to determine if the OEM hitch 350 pounds tongue weight and 3,500 pound towing limit is approved for a weight distribution WD hitch. I have researched this issue for more than two weeks and cannot find an answer. Do you have any information that conclusively proves whether or not the OEM is also approved as a WD hitch? Thanks,

I pulled up the owners manual for your 2018 Dodge Durango and there's a specific section that covers how a weight distribution works and recommends using them when the tongue weight of a trailer is high. I can't imagine they would list that in the manual if they really didn't want you using a WD system but you can check the hitch for capacities. It will state on it near the capacities whether it is rated for use with a weight distribution system. Or you can check with Mopar.

The Fastway e2 system part # FA92-00-0450 would work well for your tongue weight capacity as it has a range of 100 to 450 lbs. For a hitch ball you'd need the # 40038 and to install the ball you'll need a thin walled socket like # ALL643216.
