Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack For 4 Bikes Compatible with 2015 Subaru Outback

Question:

I have a 2015 Subrau Outback and am looking to have l a 2inch hitch installed to accommodate a 4 bike rackspecifically the Kuat NV 2.0 or the Thule T pro 4. Is there anything that I need to specify about the 2inch hitch I have installed? Once I put the bike rack on can it be left on the car or should it be removed with each use? I am looking for an easy way to transport 4 bikes of various sizes.

For your 2015 Subaru Outback, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III - 2" # 75673. This is a very sturdy hitch that will give you the support you need for your bike carrier. The only measurements that will be important for your bike rack is the height of the receiver which is 15 inches from the ground to the top most inner portion of the receiver and the center of the hitch pin hole will be 5 inches from the outer most part of the bumper. I've attached a video of this installation to assist.

For your 4 bike platform rack, which will give you the most diversity of bike sizes and styles, your thoughts of using the Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22G-NA22G is an excellent choice. This is my favorite rack due to the style and functionality. This rack not only will carry the bikes very well, but will also give you the bike repair stand for fixing any issues with your bikes while out and about. It has a 3-1/2 inch shank rise and will allow you to add fat bike compatibility with included adapters. This rack will give you the clearance to keep the rack installed on your Outback with the fold up function and the tilt down function for cargo access. There is also a base model # BA22B-BA02B that does not include the repair stand and is matte black.

The Thule T2 Pro XTR 4 Bike Platform Rack # TH83JV with 2-bike add on # TH9036XT is also a very nice option for 4 bikes, however there will be an issue with folding on your vehicle. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack will be 5 inches which will make contact with your bumper.

Let me know if you have further questions.
