Brake Controller and Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hello, i´ve checked the door of my jeep and it says something about 5400 pounds of GVWR, is that the towing capacity? Could you please help me telling me what kind of Rv should i buy, specially the lenght and weight it could have so we can tow it with our Jeep. I mean, i´ve seen many of 3.500 pounds around 20 or 21 feet.. Even one of 24 feet that weights 4000 pounds.. would my jeep tow that? what else do i have to add to make it a safer drive. And what other weight counts...? thanks a lot

From what I was able to find online it looks like your Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2001 has a towing capacity of 5,000 lb. I'd recommend you confirm that with the owners manual of your vehicle or with a Jeep dealer.
Once you determine the capacity for sure as long as you stay under that with the weight of your trailer you'd be fine.
For rear suspension enhancement we have the Timbren kit part # TJRGC2 which will fit and work well to help support the suspension as you are towing so that you'll be towing more level.
You'll want a brake controller too. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
To install it on your vehicle that should have a factory 7-way at the rear you'd want the # 5506 kit.
This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.
Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.
