Is the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13701 Compatible with a 2008 Toyota Avalon
Question:
I have a 2008 Toyota Avalon LE. Will the Curt model #C13701 fit my car? It will be used with a bike rack, but the rack has to have a 2 inch receiver to work. If not, can you recommend another 2 inch hitch.

Expert Reply:
The Curt # C13701 trailer hitch that you referenced is intended for RVs and Camper Trailers; it is not compatible with your 2008 Toyota Avalon.
For your Avalon you will need to go with a custom fit option that was designed to work with your specific vehicle. The Curt # C11427 is what you will want to go with instead. It is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. You could try using an adapter like the Brophy part # HTAD, but it will reduce the tongue weight capacity by 50% and increase play in the hitch receiver. This will also leave you with a tongue weight capacity of about 100 lbs which can be difficult to stay under depending on the bike rack and bikes.
The best option would be to go with a lightweight bike rack that fits a 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver like the Kuat Beta # B202-114. This will enable you to safely carry your bikes and can be converted to work with a 2 inch hitch receiver with part # D101.
Keep in mind that a Class I trailer hitch like part # C11427 is only rated to carry up to 2 bikes. This hitch also requires the use of a Support Strap # 18050 for any non-trailer loads like a bike rack per the Curt warranty.
