Recommended Cushioned Equalizer and Wheel/Tire for Horse Trailer
Question:
So I ordered new leaf springs, shackle kit, and dexter over under kit. As well as a straight equalizer as what I had before. With a torsion axle being a horse trailer. So I decided to put in 3.5k dexter axles with breaks. And the over under kit. Should I keep the straight equalizer or get a curved one. Sorry so long winded. Everything is installed but the straight axle doesnt seem right to me. Thank you.

Looking at your photo, the axle without brakes only is offset because of the height difference with your drum assembly height versus the idler hub height because they are resting on the ground. Your straight equalizer will work fine, but you can add a curved equalizer or even a cushioned equalizer like the Dexter E-Z Flex # K71-652-00. A cushioned equalizer will give you and your horses a smoother ride. Just adding a curved equalizer like # TREQE1 will likely only put your shackle straps on top of the equalizer versus underneath but really not improve the ride.
It looks like you have done a great job installing your parts and just need to add the wheels to make the system function correctly and align as you desire. If you don't already have wheels, I recommend the Provider ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" Vesper Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # MX97FR. These wheels will have the load capacity you need as well as a speed rating of up to 81 mph. These are great combinations, but let me know if you are looking for a different style for your trailer.
