Recommendations for a Hitch and a 2 Bike Rack that will Work on a 2004 BMW 330ci Convertible
Question:
I am planning on installing this rack on my 04 330ci convertible. The only use for it will be a 2 bike yakima stick up rack that you also sell. Are they compatible?

The Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 11178, will fit your 2004 BMW 330ci Convertible. It is a Class I hitch with a towing weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch.
For a wheel mount bike rack that will work on a Class I hitch I recommend the Kuat Transfer, part # KU74FR. This bike rack has a maximum weight capacity of 80 lbs and will work with a wide range of bikes, including most alternative and larger tubed frame bikes.
Since you will be using the Curt hitch for non-trailer loads like the hitch bike rack, you will need to use a stabilizing strap like the Curt Stabilizing Strap, # 18050 to secure the bike rack to the hitch. One end of the strap will attach to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicles trunk lip or window. It gives added support and stability to the bike rack and keeps the movement of the bike rack to a minimum, which puts less stress on the hitch.
The manufacturer (Curt) requires the use of the stabilizing strap on all of their Class I hitches. Because the Class I hitches have a lower tongue weight capacity and they do not want any added strain to be put on that hitch.
