Recommend Bike Rack And Hitch Receiver For A 2009 Honda Fit
Question:
Im looking to buy a hitch thing and hanging bike rack for my 2009 Honda Fit. I think that your website recommends the CurtTrailer Hitch Receiver C11064. I see that it is a class 1 hitch. Right now we only have 2 bikes, but theoretically we might want to use the rack on a newer car in the futureone that does support the weight of more than 2 bikes. Is it reasonable to get a 4-bike rack and which one?? but still only put two bikes on it at least with the class 1 hitch receiver? Thanks for your input.

Absolutely, although the maximum number of bikes that can be carried on a Class I hitch receiver is two, there are no rules stating that you cannot use a 4-bike bike rack to carry 2-bikes on a Class I hitch receiver, as long as it has the correct shank diameter and both of the bikes are carried on the first two bike slots, the slots closest to the vehicle..
We have two trailer hitch receiver options for you to choose from on your 2009 Honda Fit. We have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11064 and the EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7286. I recommend using the EcoHitch # 306-X7286. The EcoHitch has the 2-inch opening instead of the 1-1/4. This will open you up to more 4-bike options. Also since it is not a class I, you could carry more bikes as long as the combined weight of your bikes and the carrier stays under the 300 pound tongue weight capacity or the capacity of your car if it is below 300 pounds.
For a hanging 4-bike bike rack compatible with 1-1/4" and 2" shanks, I recommend using the Thule Hitching Post Pro part # TH934XTR as this is one of our most popular hitch mounted hanging bike racks. To secure the rack to the receiver, I recommend using the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device part # THSTL2 as this hitch pin has both locking and anti-rattle capabilities.
You will also need the Thule Bike Adapter Bar part # TH982XT for all non-traditional women's and children's frame bikes. I have attached a review and installation video of both hitches and the bike rack for you.
