Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2017 Subaru Outback
Question:
You dont seem to be as enthusiastic about the Ecohitch as for the Draw-Tite and Curt, at least you dont say as much about it. Are there any significant drawbacks to it other than the higher price and more difficult installation? On the plus side, it appears to give a much cleaner look and - possibly? - slightly higher ground clearance than the others?

For your 2017 Subaru Outback, The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 306-X7601 is a confirmed fit. It does provide a cleaner look and a slightly higher clearance. I don't know the exact measurement as we haven't done the measurements yet, but it looks like it will be around 16 inches based on the measurement we do have of the Draw-Tite # 75673 measuring 15 inches.
If you will be towing with this hitch, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467 for your vehicle wiring. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment. I've attached a video to assist.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This ball mount is adjustable to allow you to tow many trailers level. It has two hitch ball options, a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch to fit with most standard trailer couplers. This ball mount also has a unique stowable feature to give you a clean look when not in use and protect you from hitting your shins while loading and unloading when not in use. I recommend using a hitch lock like # e98882 to secure your investment.
