Recommended Weight Distribution System With Sway Control For 8 Inch Trailer Frame

Question:

I need a sway control and weight dist. system for my 28foot enclosed trailer. I believe the tongue weight falls in the 1,000-1,500 lb range total tow weight about 10K lbs. I really like the Curt C17501 system but it looks like that style wont work on a trailer with a trailer frame greater than 6inch tall. So I would like a recommendation for a similar system that I could install on an 8inch frame rail. I think I saw an Equl-i-zer brand that might have had some larger plates that you could purchase to adapt it to a large rail. Are there any other options or recommendations? Thanks.

When choosing a weight distribution system, you want to go off the total tongue weight. This total tongue weight includes the loaded weight of the trailer tongue that you stated along with any cargo behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. For the size system you need, I only have one recommendation that includes sway control that will fit on your trailer.

For your application, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 17,000 lbs GTW, 1,700 lbs TW # RP66075. It just so happens that this is my favorite system because it is the only system that actively fights trailer sway before it begins. The unique dual cam feature along with the hot rolled trunnion spring bars, make this and incredible system with great versitility and adjustability. Unlike the Curt system or the Equil-i-zer systems, the straight line system allows you to have the sway control along with the micro adjustability of the chains and the cams for the best possible ride. It has a tongue weight range between 1000 and 1700 lbs.

This will fit your 8 inch tall trailer frame rail as long as it isn't wider than 2-1/2 inches.
