Is Drilling Required When Installing Trailer Hitch On 2015 Dodge Dart

Question:

I have never installed a trailer hitch before. For the trailer hitch that fits a 2015 Dodge dart are the holes that the screws go through already in the frame or do they have to be put there?

The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2015 Dart is the Curt, part # C11281. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.

When installing this hitch you do not have to drill any holes in the frame. You use existing holes as explained in the instructions. You just remove the rubber plugs from the holes and the hitch will use them for the hitch install. You may need to clean dirt or corrosion out of the holes in the frame, and can use a nylon brush like part # 814092. I have attached a link to an installation of this hitch on a 2015 Dodge Dart you can check out.

The Curt hitch # C11281 requires a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 for all non-trailer loads.

If you are planning on doing some light towing with your Dart I recommend a ball mount like part # 3592. This ball mount has a 2-1/8 inch rise or 2-3/4 inch drop. The hitch instructions state that a ball mount can only be used in the rise position. The hitch pin and clip are included with this ball mount.

For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball you can use part # 19256 and for a 2-inch ball you can use part # 19258.

If you need trailer wiring I recommend part # C56179. This installs in the rear cargo area behind the drive and passenger side trim panels. You then run the hot lead wire to the positive battery post using the included fuse holder.

If you plan on using the trailer hitch for bike racks, cargo or other uses, let me know what you are going to use it for and I will be glad to make some recommendations that will work for you.
