Recommended Way to Transport 180-lb Generator on Coachman Apex Travel Trailer
Question:
What would you suggest for mounting a 180lb 18inx28in generator on the the rear of a Coachmen Apex 269RBSS Travel trailer? I can not find the load specs for the 4x4 bumper.

If you cannot confirm that the 4 x 4 bumper on your travel trailer has the capacity to handle the weight of your 180-lb generator plus the weight of a bumper-mount hitch and cargo carrier you'd use to hold it, then your best option is to install a frame-mount hitch like Curt # 13703 to hold it all or to use an a-frame front-of-trailer cargo tray like Stromberg Carlson # CC-255 which has a 300-lb capacity.
Lifting a 180-lb generator up onto the tray may not suit everybody, I realize, so if you'd rather use a hitch-mounted cargo carrier in the 2-inch hitch on the back of the trailer you could use Pro Series # 63153 which measures 60- x 24-inches inside its 5-1/2-inch-tall rails. This carrier has 2-1/2-inches of rise in its shank for better ground clearance. Curt requires use of a stabilizing strap # 18050 with their hitch to help support cargo loads.
You'd also need some ratcheting tie down straps to secure the generator to the carrier. You can use the Erickson # EM34415 which is a set of two straps with push-button-releases.
