Recommended Surge Brake Actuator With Electric Lockout For Drum Brakes

Question:

Surge brake actuator for drum brakes with electric back up actuator. I see you have a Titan one but it seems for disc brakes only. I do not want to convert from from drum brakes to disk brakes. Do you have one that works with drum brakes that has an electric back up actuator that in engages when the vehicle was put in reverse? I do have the towing package on my Ford Expedition which has the round trailer light connector.

We do have a surge actuator that can add an electric lockout for drum brakes.

I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator, part # T43397007K. This actuator is adjustable to fit 1-7/8, 2, and 50-mm hitch balls and is a bolt-on for 3 inch wide trailer tongues. The breakaway kit is included with this actuator. For the lockout you can then use # T4748800.

If you have a 7-way connector on the back of your Expedition, you will need to change the trailer connector to match. I assume you have a 4-way connector. I recommend a 7-way connector like part # PK12706. I have attached a photo of the PK12706 you can check out. The center pin is typically used for the reverse lights, or to attach the electric lockout wire to on the actuator.

To make it easier to do the wiring I recommend using a junction box like part # 38656.

If you use the electric lockout on the drum titan model 60 actuator do you still have to use the smaller office that it came with correct? If so how do you screw the electric lockout into it? 2 different style threads?

In cases like this it's okay to actually install the reverse lockout solenoid # T4748800 on the brake line instead of at the back of the master cylinder like normal (using the pre-drilled hole you referenced). We've confirmed with Titan that it will work just like normal as long as it's securely attached.
