Can a Trailer Hitch Be Detected by the Back Up Sensors on a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid
Question:
I am thinking about purchasing this hitch for my Escape Hybrid. My 2009 Escape Hybrid is the Limited version which has the backup sensors. Will this hitch set off my sensors when I do not have anything attached to it? Thanks

The available hitches for your 2009 Ford Escape will all extend a little beyond the bumper, but not by much; only about 1 inch. What you can do to test the sensors ahead of time is to place something that extends about 1 inch from the bumper where the hitch would be. If the sensors pick it up, then there is a possibility they will sense the hitch.
I would think it is unlikely since the distance is only 1 inch and a steep angle up to the sensors. Even if the hitch did trip the sensors it will only happen when going in reverse.
I also recommend Ball Mount # C45010 with pin and clip # PC3 and hitch ball # 19260 (1-7/8 inch diameter), # 63845 (2 inch diameter), or # 63853 (2-5/16 inch diameter).
The recommended wiring for your Escape is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 118551.
