Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for a 2015 Ford Escape
Question:
I would like to get a temporary trailer hitch to use on my company car. Its a 2015 Ford Escape. Is there anything avaiable for that? I want to tow a 14 foot fishing boat. The trip is about 300 miles.

The most temporary type of trailer hitch that you can install on a vehicle is a trailer hitch that bolts on and does not require drilling or welding to install. For your 2015 Ford Escape, I recommend looking at the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75758. This hitch does not require any drilling or modification to install and it is the easiest hitch to install and remove that fits your Escape. I have attached an installation video for you to check out.
In addition to the trailer hitch, you will also need a wiring harness to tow a trailer. For the 2015 Escape, I recommend the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118566. This harness plugs into the tail light wiring, so it will be easy to remove when it is time. This harness will require running a power wire to the battery, but the wire can be cut out if you want to remove all traces of trailer wiring. I have attached an installation video of this wiring harness for you to check out as well.
The last few items that you will need are a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a link to our help article that explains how to choose the correct ball mount based on the trailer you are towing. We also offer the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit, # 989900, which comes with two of the most common ball mounts, 2 hitch balls, a pin and clip and a storage bag.
One last note, since you may be removing the hitch, you may want to pick up a replacement hardware kit using part # RHK. The installation hardware is not designed to be reused since it is torqued down and this way you will have new hardware if you want to resell the hitch or reinstall the hitch on another Escape.
