Trailer Hitch for Scooter and Lift for a 2011 Buick LaCrosse
Question:
This hitch looks great,I would like to put it on for a scooter lift .The weight of scooter and lift is only 160lbs and should be no problem, however when my rear wheels are in the gutter when entering my drveway I only have 6and1/2 inches to bottom of car. Im probably over worrying and what about recommended straps, are they necessary for this light of a load?

If the rear of your 2011 Buick LaCrosse is 6-1/2 inches from the ground on the driveway incline then anything that extends out further then that would be even closer to the ground. Basically you can probably expect to scrape the ground with a carrier installed in the trailer hitch.
The way around this would be if the carrier you use had a rise in the shank effectively increasing its ground clearance. Carrier # PS10401-10402 for example has a slight rise in the shank (4 inches) and would be better for ground clearance.
If you go with Curt trailer hitch # C12115 then it does not matter how light the load is. According to Curt's warranty requirements if you are using the hitch for a non-trailer load then you have to use a stabilization strap # 18050.
The other option is to use Draw-Tite hitch # 36538 which does not have the strap requirement but the tongue weight capacity is 300 pounds.
