Class I Hitch Cargo Carrier with Rise in the Shank for Better Ground Clearance on 2012 Honda Fit

Question:

Good day, I am looking to buy a cargo carrier for my Honda Fit. When it is packed, it rides low to the ground and I feel I need a raised-shank carrier for better ground clearance. My hitch is only a Class I. Do you have a cargo carrier that is raised that accepts a Class I hitch receiver?

A hitch-mount cargo carrier with height rise in its shank is an excellent idea for use with your low-riding 2012 Honda Fit, and we do offer such compatible Class I carriers that will fit your hitch.

The carrier I recommend is the Curt # C18110, which offers 3-3/4-inches of rise in its shank. This is the most rise available among all of our Class I carriers. Another benefit of this carrier is it's fairly light weight - about 30-lbs - which will still leave much of your Class I hitch's capacity (about 170-lbs) for your loaded cargo after you account for the carrier's weight.

Please note that some Class I hitches require use of a stabilizing strap. If your hitch manufacturer has this requirement you can use a strap like # 18050 to help take some of the stress off the hitch. Such an item is a good idea for any brand of hitch but Curt requires you to use one to maintain your hitch warranty coverage.

If you want to lock the basket to your hitch you can use # 5200 from TowReady.
