Five-wire design is perfect for newer boat trailers that have hydraulic brakes. Easy-pull connector housing makes disconnecting a snap and includes built-in mounting holes and a protective dust cover.

Features:

  • 5-Wire design common on boat trailers with hydraulic brakes
    • Provides backup function to release surge brakes
    • Fits most 4-way connectors
  • Easy-pull, ergonomic grip on connector makes disconnecting a snap
  • Heavy-duty connector housing has built-in mounting holes
  • Durable, molded dust cover provides superior protection for terminals
    • Tin-plated terminals resist corrosion
  • Nylon sleeve and heat-shrink tubing protect wires
  • Terminal grease packet included

Specs:

  • Connector: 5-way flat
  • Wire length: 48"
  • Wire gauge: 16
  • 3-Year warranty

The 5-way flat connector is found on most newer boat trailers that have hydraulic brakes. The fifth wire in this model ties into the reverse lights on your vehicle so that a signal can be sent to your hydraulic brake actuator to disengage whenever the tow vehicle is put into reverse. To use this function, your actuator must have an electric reverse lockout with solenoid.

The 5-way design will also work with small utility trailers that have electric brakes. For this type of application, the fifth wire will need to be wired to correspond with your in-cab, electric brake controller.

I fitted the Hopkins 5-way flat connector harness with a 5-way round plug which couples to my Goldwing trike (tow vehicle). The popup trailer lights operate as designed.

by:

Connector and wire harness well made - connector designed such that it can be mounted and harness has added protection for wires.

Would like to have marine grade wire since I do mostly saltwater fishing. I mounted the connector on a piece of 1.5" square galvanized tubing painted black.

by:

Looks durable and should do the job.

by:

Used this on my 2018 Equinox for my flat tow tail lights.

by:

I'm one of those people who do a lot of research before making a purchase. I am very happy with the quality of the Hopkins trailer connector and would highly recommend it.. Good quality products and excellent service from etrailer.com

Still 5 Stars! E-trailer always has what I need!

by:

Worked great on my 2022 Civic Sport Hatchback. Unlike the previous generation (2021 and older) you DO NOT have to trim the internal metal bumper for clearance of the outer plastic bumper. Trimming the lower diffuser was pretty easy and only required a 3-1/4 in cut in depth and about 2-1/4 in width (If you want the gaps super tight). Remember to tape off the panels before you get started to prevent chips and paint scratches and you'll be set.

by:

ONE YEAR AFTER THIS WIRING HARNESS IS STILL WORKING GREAT . THE PART IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED AND THE SERVICE AT ETRAILER IS AWSOME..... I LIVE IN WISCONSIN WHERE THE WINTERS ARE VERY COLD AND THE ROADS ARE VERY SALTY AND IT HAS HELD UP GREAT.... AWSOME PRODUCT

by:

Delivery was faster than I expected. I bought a converter with the appropriate adapters to go from a 4 wire vehicle to a trailer with turn signals separate from the brakes. I haven't done my final assembly yet, but I did take a few minutes to twist the wires together to make sure everything was going to work like it was supposed to. Instructions were clear, wires & converter were clearly labeled & preliminary hook up took less than 10 minutes.

by:

Items were delivered as described and on time,Great experience!

by:

etrailer is a great place. They have both quality equipment and parts, as well as excellent prices. If you need some advice, they can supply that as well. It is rare in the days of internet buying that you can find all three qualities from one store.

by:

This connector is built to last. A big step up from most flat 4 or 5 wire in quality.
With it's secure fitting dust/dirt cover I have no worries that the terminals
will stay clean and always make a good connection . The 3 year warranty is a
plus also.

by:

Not installed yet due to weather & travel. Prefer to 5 pin adapter kit. Like extra cable / wire length to connect to Jeep wire harness so all connections are in a protected space. Heavy duty and like dust cap.

by:

Product exactly as described. Etrailer.com delivered to my door within 3 days! As always excellent communication and transaction.
Will continue to use them for all my trailering needs.

by:

I needed to change from a 4 prong trailer connection to a 5 prong. The product was easy to wire and works great. A good product and I would recommend it to anyone.

by:

Great Product. Each terminal is identified in the plastic plug end - making wiring and troubleshooting easier.

Comes with a decorative and protective loom and covering end cap.

by:

Attached easily. Nice that NO extra bracket is needed to attach to the bumper.

by:

A quality built wiring harness. Heavy duty and well constructed.

by:

Excellent product with simplicity made this a breeze to connect. works like a charm!!

by:

Great quality piece. Will made wiring my Jeep to my trailer so much easier.

by:

See review for the other side of the harness. Both sides are well identified.

by:

Great quality, good materials, good wire gauge, covers built in. Just all around nice.

by:

Plug and Play

by:

Installed product without a hitch, been working as expected.

We are a hitch install shop that specializes in all things towing and this wiring was installed multiple times over the last year, this is the best wiring to upgrade to the 5 flat that will last long because the wires and 5 flat head is more durable than some alternative options.

by:

Great product, good prices very good customer service would highly recommend.

  • 7-Way to 5-Way Adapter for Boat Trailer with Electric Reverse Lockout
Yes, there are 7-Way to 5-Way adapters that you can use. If you want one that is just a 7-Way to 5-Way then # A75TB is a great option. I have linked a video review for you. If you want something that is a little more versatile we have # 37385 which is a 7-Way to 4- and 5-Way. I have linked a video review of this adapter as well.

We don't have any custom wiring harnesses for motorcycles. You can use the Upgraded Heavy Duty ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector # C59496 for the separate turn signals, running light, and brake light. If you are connecting to a trailer, the 5th function for a 5 way can be added using the # HM47900 with that 5th wire being either an auxiliary power option or a trailer brake controller output. • Where Does Fifth Pin of Trailer 5-Way Run to Activate Reverse Lock Out Solenoid
Sounds like you are trying to activate a reverse lock out solenoid on a surge brake trailer so that it can back up freely. The fifth pin that is the furthest from the jacketed ground pin is the fifth circuit to use. This circuit would need to tap into the reverse light circuit of your tow vehicle. I attached an install video for the 5-way adapter part # 47515 that shows this process on a 2014 GMC Acadia.

  • Converting 7-Way on VW Touareg to Tow Motorcycle Trailer w/ Separate Turn Signals
The problem you're having is that the signals coming out of your 7-way on the vehicle are converted. This means that the right turn/brake, two functions are combined on one circuit, and the left turn/brake is combined on another. Your trailer, however uses one wire for brake lamps, one for right turn and one for left turn. In order to get the taillights on that trailer to work they way you want them to, you'll need to use a Vehicle to Vehicle Taillight Converter, part # 118158 to 'split...

To complete your wiring with a 7-way cord, taillight converter and 5-pole connector I recommend using a few other similar items to give you a cleaner and potentially more reliable setup. Instead of cutting part # A57CCB you could use coiled 7-way plug/cord # WG54006-043, converter # 118158 and 5-pole vehicle-side connector # HM47900. To make the wire connections you can use butt connectors # DW05744-10.

  • Installing 5-Way Trailer Connector on 2011 Ford Explorer to Control Reverse Lockout on Boat Trailer
If you already have a trailer wiring harness and 4 to 5-Way adapter like # 20036 then the easiest way to get to the reverse light circuit is to gain access to the wiring behind the reverse lights. This can be difficult if the reverse lights are on the hatch. If they are then they also have to run out from the hatch and into the body at some point, most likely near the top where the hatch hinges. If you keep following it you should be able to find a good place to tap into the reverse light...
